Dedicated to Nahel M.

His was, they say
through a footballer mouthpiece,
a tragic loss
but nothing worth disturbing the peace over
so now the violence must cease.
To this I say:
his life
was the world’s entire
so what’s a riot and burning tires?
What’s a lidl destruction
amongst the disenfranchised’s eruption?
If you wanted to be contrary
you might point to a burning library.
Books are nice,
but if the wretched of the earth don’t live to read them,
can we say we really need them?
The masses don’t care what you feel,
they’ll go on breaking stone, glass and steel.
Today they storm a new Bastille.
Claim all you want that you still want peace,
there’s only two sides in this fight:
the people and the police.
There’s only one that’s right,
and it’s not the ones saying ‘Savage Hordes.’
Macron can use words like ‘healing’ and ‘compromise’
but it’s too late
to pull those sad puppy dog eyes, mate;
we expect no quarter from any state.
Be afraid, you fascists,
as if the barbarians were at the gate.
See what it is when a people resist.
Who knows what will happen,
it will probably come down to the wire,
I’ll gladly see Rome burn over one truth:
his life was the world’s entire!
